Garba Fest!

During this event, I was a part of the decoration team and also was a participant for the event. Garba is a traditional dance form originated in Gujarat, India. As garba is a traditional dance form, the decoration should be something that looked traditional and also gives a kind of vibe that will make people want to dance. We used a lot of real flowers to decorate the stairs, walls on the side, we even made a circle in the center using the flowers and flower petals. For the hut, we made paper flowers to hang them and give the traditional look of Garba.

LO1:- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Setting up a traditional ambience was new for me as I have never done it before, also It was a new experience for me to be a part of this celebration. But with the help of my friends, I was able to understand what to do and what not to do. This was the case with the decoration as well as the celebration.
1)During the decoration of the event, I did not know how to bring the traditional vibe, because I normally do not visit traditional events which made it hard for me to visualize the whole set up.
2)I didn’t even know how to play Garba I yet learned 2 types of garba, 14 and 6 and overcame my fear of being in the public. Learning Garba was fun but it was also confusing for me at first, but with practice, I was able to do it.

LO2:-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Challenges that I faced was less time, Not having a visualization for the setup, learning a new dance style and also working in a group. This time working in a group was not that hard everyone was open-minded. We really had very less time because of which we had to take some of the work homes in order to complete it. Also, we faced a problem with the ropes getting tangled into each other. We decided to make something like a top of a hut, to do so we also had to make sure that when everyone is dancing under it, their hand do not touch the ropes which will make it hard for them to dance. Tying those ropes at a height made it hard for us to reach the top, but we were able to receive help from our support staff.
While I was learning the dance, it was confusing for me to learn it may be because I kept feeling clumsy while dancing with everyone around also because I was wearing a traditional outfit which I normally do not wear due to I found it very uncomfortable.

LO5:-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
It was easy for me to get an idea of the setup as I had help from my friends, Normally I like to work alone because of many time my idea clashes with others and then the decision turns into an argument. But while the decoration of this event we did not have any disputes as everyone was accepting each other’s ideas and being open-minded. Also, I realized that sometimes it is better to work in a team than working alone.

The highlight for me during this event was that I was able to learn garba, even if just two types, and the easy once I was able to learn something new. Being able to learn garba and doing it correctly for the first time felt really good. It was like I unlocked something big. I also learned that working in a group does not always have to mean that there will be disputes between the team members we can also learn from them and maybe we can explore more new ideas if we connect each others idea.
