I am very passionate about playing basketball and pretty good at it. Our school has given us and opportunity to share our skills to children in need through service session. Service session is a platform where underprivileged children came to our school to learn/enhance some skills related to sports/activities like Basketball, Cooking,Football,Dance,ICT. I had taught them to play basic basketball.

Learning outcome 1:- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Basketball is sport which interest me a lot. I have been playing basketball since 4 years. While playing and teaching them I have improved my basketball skills and patience as the children were mischievous and didn’t wanted to listen to us. And ,thereby I controlled my anger tried to be patient and make them understand in a peaceful way.

Learning Outcome 2 :-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

While the service session was going on , the most difficult challenge I faced was to communicate to the children. All the children were from government school , and Gujarati whereas I don’t speak Gujarati. To overcome this conflict I had taken help from my friend who is Gujarati and speaks fluently and is  good at basketball too.  My friend helped me to communication to children to give instruction and command terms for basketball and thereby it was a win-win solution. While, my friend was communicating with children I tried to grasp and learn Gujarati a bit so at least I could give command terms to them in Gujarati.

Learning outcome 5:- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

We all had a lot of fun and delight time with the kids. We had some difficulty to settle them because they were very enthusiastic about learning basketball. We had to be very calm as they were young children and they wanted there innovative ideas to include in our plan , which could be more fun to do with them as they wanted. We decide collaboratively as a team that we will divide our self into groups and mentor the students in groups too. So , there is less disputes and work done is nicely  and effectively. Working in team was grateful for us because it was planned with all unity and dignity and it help us to have  better ideas and less disputes on the day to teach them.

After all the challenges and problem , service session was incredible and beautifully done by all. All of us were very happy to see joy on the children face and it felt quite pleasant that we thought them skills which would help them in future. I have tried to achieve the Learning Outcome 1,LO 2, LO 5 and clearly attempted to solve challenges .
