CAS PS

Our school gives us the opportunity to choose an activity which we would like to do for an academic year. I had been playing frisbee from the last 2 academic years but this time I was very enthusiastic and had an urge to learn a new sport. Hence I choose to play table tennis. Table tennis is also known as ping pong a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball back and forth across the table using racket. I wasn’t aware of the rules or techniques. we had a decent amount of resources as school is well equipped. including ball machines, great racquets, and great quality balls and competition-size tables. I proceeded with the game for the following academic year and with time I learned numerous new techniques like playing styles and various serves and spins.

L01: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While figuring out how to play the game I understood that I was better at playing a backhand stroke than a forehand stroke so I decided to play the forehand stroke on the machine till I could improve my forehand play. I played on the machine so that I could differ the speed and bearing of the balls so I could change in accordance with every situation and improve my playing style. In the midst of figuring out how to play, I likewise saw that playing a turn-style was my quality than playing a forceful style, thus I began with practicing turn style and slowly and gradually when I learned it tried the forceful style.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenge has been undertaken I faced numerous difficulties through the journey of playing Table Tennis. One of the real difficulties was to adapt up to the level at which my friends were playing. They were more experienced than me at the game and it was easy for them to beat me at matches. Nonetheless, as I kept playing with them, I comprehended their playing style and saw the power and focus which I could adapt to modify my playing style. LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Since this was a long term activity, I had to set my objectives to enhance the game wherein I had the option to reflect back after every slot so that I know the areas I am supposed to work upon. As I advanced further in the game, I had the option to achieve numerous objectives and gain new ones so my practice was constant. By the year-end, I aimed to learn the forehand and forceful style of playing.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences There was a need to balance studies and sports and I was successful in giving this activity enough time so that I could develop skills in this sport it also acted as a break from studies. In sports, it is really necessary to stay committed so that you can view your progress and I can proudly say my commitment made me be better each day in focus, forehand practice, and speed. I achieved the goals I had set for myself. We had dedicated slots in our timetable for sports and I tried my best to not miss them due to studies.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The classroom is an excellent place to inculcate practice like collaborative learning. To promote learning from peers as well as making the process interactive. My coach told me that if you want to elevate your game it is necessary to play not only with machine but also with a classmate or in doubles that teaches you various different skills and develops spontaneousness and concentration. It helps you with tactics and strategies which in turn would affect your game and your chances to win. In my class, there are 12-14 students and I have played with all my classmates to know their strength and work upon my development. My peers are very supportive and at the beginning, they taught me and didn’t panic when I dint play up till expectation.
